Kamen Forest Management has logged and bought standing timber for selective thinning in northern Michigan for 30 years plus with a combined experience time of around 105 years. That is just with the family that we currently have working with us, our family has been doing this for 5 generations, over 80% of our business are repeated clients and we accomplish that by paying attention to every need, goal and objective that they have for their property, along with good sound Northern Michigan timber management practices. We take extreme pride in our work and do everything in our power to adjust our methods to suit what needs to be done for each individual parcel of property as there are no 2 parcels the same. Our methods of scaling the timber and our several options of logging methods along with proven timber management practices are just some of the reasons for such a high volume of our clients being repeated. We manage a number of clubs along with a lot of smaller properties.
At Kamen Forest Management, we know that when you sell your timber, you want to maximize the potential of your woodlands. Proper management of your forest is a key factor when trying to do this. We feel that each job should be treated like there isn’t another like it in the world. There are different types of cutting methods that can be used along with the owner’s goals to increase your wood potential while properly managing it. While the lumber business may be our first concern, it is by no means our only concern. We are experienced and well-versed in forest management practices and able to meet your special concerns or land use needs. We are able to employ a number of harvesting methods, including “very selective” cutting to preserve the character of the land or “clear-cutting” for development or farming. We can adapt our logging method to suit the trees to be harvested, the peculiarities of the site, or even your desire to encourage specific wildlife habitat.
When we go into a parcel of property for a timber harvest our operation goes as follows:
1.) The landowner’s goals and objectives. (First, we listen to you, Second we explain management practices for your property, Third, we listen to you again)
2.) We determine the best logging method for your individual property. (Different types of logging equipment and or hauling logs out of the woods and whether or not equipment, chainsaws or both should be used )
3.) Come to an agreement. (We have a contract that is very simple to understand. Whatever deal we make on the timber gets put in it along with any provisions you may have about the job)
