Shrinking Assets

Your Assets May Actually Be Shrinking In Value

Too many landowners believe that their valuable timberland is like money in the bank: All they have to do is sit back, watch it grow, and cash in at their convenience.

They’re wrong! A forest is a living, breathing thing…dynamic and always changing. And not always for the better.

Forests are subject to the forces of nature. And the wind, fire, ice storms, insects, or disease can wipe out a forest in a very short time.

The forest also ages. And, as the old trees reach maturity and cease to grow, they become more vulnerable to disease and damage and, inevitably and often unnoticed, decay sets in. Now, not only are these trees decreasing in value, but their very presence inhibits any new growth beneath the dying canopy.
